Fall in Our Neighbourhoods: Things to Do in Markham, Stouffville & Uxbridge This October

October is one of the best months to get out and enjoy the towns we call home. The leaves are turning, the markets are full, and there's something for every age on the calendar. Here's our pick of what's happening across Markham, Stouffville and Uxbridge this month.

Markham

• Markham Fair: Thursday, October 1 to Sunday, October 4. One of the region's biggest fall traditions returns to the Markham Fairgrounds, with midway rides, livestock and horse shows, and plenty of fair food.
• Main Street Markham Farmers' Market: Saturdays, 9 AM to 1 PM, until Thanksgiving. There are still a couple of Saturdays left to stock up on local produce, honey, baked goods and artisan finds before the season wraps up.
• ScaryFest at Markham Museum: late October. Each year the Friends of Markham Museum turn the museum's 25-acre grounds into a kid-friendly Halloween town for children 10 and under, with costumed trick-or-treating, live shows and a trackless train. Tickets are sold by timed entry, so watch markham.ca for this year's dates and book early.

Stouffville

• The Stouffville Market: Saturdays, 9 AM to 2 PM, through October. Fresh produce, artisan goods and food vendors at 6240 Main Street, in the heart of the historic village.
• Rum Ragged at Nineteen on the Park: Friday, October 30. The JUNO-nominated Newfoundland folk group brings its fiddle, banjo and button accordion to Stouffville's 1896 heritage theatre as part of the venue's concert series. Tickets are required.
• Halloween on Main: late October. Main Street closes to traffic for the town's annual family Halloween celebration, with local businesses handing out candy and activities in Civic Square and inside 19 on the Park. Check townofws.ca for the confirmed 2026 date.

Uxbridge

• Guided Fall Trail Walk at the Countryside Preserve: Saturday, October 3, 9 AM. The Township is leading about an hour-long walk through the preserve to show off its trails and fall colours. It goes rain or shine, so dress for the weather. Pre-registration is encouraged by emailing trails@uxbridge.ca.

One more date for the calendar: municipal elections are coming up in all three towns this month. Markham votes online October 16 to 26 and in person October 23 to 26, Stouffville's election day is Monday, October 26, and Uxbridge is voting online. It's worth checking that you're registered.
